Solutions for rainwater storage in the new climate context. TeraPlast's answer – Underground tanks

Solutions for rainwater storage in the new climate context. TeraPlast's answer - Underground tanks To respond to the current challenges related to climate change, TeraPlast proposes an innovative solution: underground tanks for the collection and storage of rainwater label. We had the opportunity to present this solution at the National Conference "30 years to full compliance in the water and sanitation sector?", held on October 30, 2024 in Bucharest. During this event, experts and authorities discussed the solutions that Romania needs to meet environmental standards and improve its water and sanitation infrastructure. Climate change and increasingly long periods of drought have made it more necessary to find efficient methods to save and store water. Our rainwater storage tanks support this need and offer the possibility to store water efficiently and use it when needed. In the presentation we have elaborated two main products for underground rainwater storage: the 5.2 cubic metre monobloc tank and the 10 cubic metre minimum capacity modular tank. The first product, the 5.2 cubic metre monobloc tank, is made of medium density polyethylene, a durable and efficient material, specially designed to last. This tank has a ribbed structure with reinforcements and an adjustable corrugated cardboard telescope, which facilitates installation and allows the expansion of the storage capacity by mounting several tanks in series. Its flexibility makes it ideal for different types of projects. The second product is the 10 cubic metre minimum modular tank, which can be adapted to the needs of each project. Each module adds 5 cubic metres of capacity and the tanks can be equipped with additional caps and telescopes to fit seamlessly into the available space. This makes it a practical and effective product for storing larger quantities of rainwater. Underground storage solutions offer many practical advantages. For example, underground tanks do not take up any surface area, leaving space for other land use. Since they are installed underground, they can be placed in high-traffic areas, with additional protection by a concrete slab. At the same time, the water stored in these tanks remains cold and protected from frost in winter if the tanks are below the freezing depth of about 80 cm.

Although the installation can be expensive, especially due to excavation, these costs will pay for themselves over time, allowing them to have constant access to their own water source. Since storage solutions can involve significant costs that can be recouped over time, support is needed. In this regard, it would be useful to have legislative measures to support the use of underground reservoirs through subsidies, facilitating initial investments. Government agencies and beneficiaries, both public and private, should also be aware of the benefits of continuous access to an available water source. And in addition, the support of designers is also needed to propose the integration of storage solutions into projects. TeraPlast underground tanks are an efficient, safe and sustainable solution for the storage of rainwater, domestic water or clean water. They contribute to water conservation and help protect this essential resource, as an investment for a more sustainable future.
